Blueberries a Super Food?

We always wish to have a food that’s good enough to reduce the risk of cancer, reduce our cholesterol level, halt the causes of hair loss, and at the same time cheap and readily available. There are not many foods that we can call super foods and not all of these can solve all our health problems. One super food that has grown in popularity is Blueberries.
So what makes blueberry a super food?
This fruit is packed with anti-oxidants and phytonutrients. Anti-oxidants are considered essential in the fight against development of heart disease and cancer. An antioxidant, ellagic acid, is found in blueberries. Ellagic acid blocks the metabolic pathways and slows the growth of tumors that cause cancer. Research shows that people consuming fruits with high amount of ellagic acids have less chance of having cancer. Of all the fruits, blueberries have more ellagic acid than any other fruit.
Experts believe that the darker the colour of blueberries mean more anti-oxidants. It is recommended to that you consume at least half a cup of blueberries a day to have the desired effect of anti-oxidants in them. Many people put them in shakes and blend them in to make a nice drink.
These fruits can be grown in the backyard because it is relatively simple to do it and it assures you that you will always have fresh supply of blueberries every day. Whether they are frozen or dried, they will still have the same effect as when they are eaten fresh.
