Guatemala and Dominican Republic Students
At the end of 2007, 25 students from San Carlos University in Guatemala, started working towards a Doctorate degree in Science Management that is offered by the Post Graduate Studies System (PGSS).
These professionals, specialists in different areas, came to Costa Rica to know more about the UNED, its methodology and technological tools that are used in the teaching process.
"This is the first step in internationalizing Management School postgraduate programs. Thanks to our Distance Education methodology and the use of new technologies, mainly WebCT, we can be closer than ever," was Assistant Director Rodolfo Tacsan words; "We
have moved from being a Costa Rican university to a regional university”.
Similar to the Guatemalans experience, a group of professionals from the Open University for Adults (UAPA), from the Dominican Republic attends the Doctorate in Education program as well.
The UNED, through different internal processes aimed at providing quality education and through generating dialogue spaces on topics that are of interest to the society, UNED strengthens its mission in society.
Thirty-nine programs in natural sciences, social science and humanities; management, education, plus other eight university extension programs, and twenty-four post graduates represents a wide array of options responding to society needs.
The use of technological tools such as online courses, audio-visual materials, multimedia programs and the Internet is an important, adequate and effective support to all students in the education process.
In addition, the university’s 14 rooms of videoconferences located in different areas of the Costa Rican territory, is another important support to facilitate the students’ access. The university graduates, apart from obtaining professional knowledge on the subject studied, develop a series of skills such as self-discipline, self-learning, organization and planning.

After subscribing an agreement, that will allow at least one thousand young people of lower income families, to study in the University.
