The Panamanian congress in March, 2004, declared this day, in order to outline values and contributions of the Chinese community to the culture and to the development of the country.
The Chinese presence dates 1854, with the arrival of the Sea Witch ship with 705 Chinese workers for the Railroad Co. At the end of the XIX century, the Panama Chinese population was 316.054, today they are an estimated 6% of the total population.
In spite of the many difficulties and cultural barriers, the Panamanian Chinese descendants have managed to integrate themselves totally to the social development of the country.
