The celebration of Limon Roots Afro Cultural Festival within the framework of the Black People and Costa Rican Afro Cultural Day (August 31), and the Encounter of Cultures in October, featured, not only local speakers, artists and exhibits, but also activists and performers from around the world such as Mighty Gabby and Gillo from Barbados, the world recognized National Folkloric Garifuna Ballet from Honduras, D´Fiesta music band from Panamá with their leading singer Alfredito Payne and the star jazz singer Idania Dowman.

This festivity, the largest of its kind in Central America, not only has become a greatest encounter but it is also rated an unequivocal success and covers a wide range of interests and activities, with an aim to restore, strengthen, appreciate, and celebrate black cultural traditions, values, and identities by enhancing Afro-Costa Rican cultural awareness and consciousness, emphasizing the contributions of the Afro Costa Rican people in the consolidation of this country and the American continent society as whole.

The Limon Roots Festival growth process has been vertiginous and will follow the same path in 2010, showing to the world the importance of cultural diversity by modernizing and maintaining the high quality of this great event.

Once again, the Limón’s Negro Cultural and Civic Committee - BlackCulture Festival,--now in its eleventh year- was responsible for showcasing the region’s remarkable riches with many activities and the now very prestigious annual Gala Street Parade on August 31st in Limon.
